Any ideas how I might be able to re-write the UC source to fux this?

I think I discoverd the problem... my user control is buried inside a couple foders like root\Controls\Templates\myUserControl.ascx. I think your fix only works if the user control is one folder deep. I will look for a possible solution to this, haven't done a whole lot oftesting yet, but I'll let you know what I find out.

I am not sure why, but in the release you provided, with user controls inside serveral folders deep the '\' was not getting replaced with a '_'. I haven't extensively tested, but for anyone with a similar problem, hope this helps!

I tried the Editable HierarGrid and discovered a bug. After editing a record in a nested grid and making changes to the main grid, the nested grid changes are lost. It looks like, since the nested grids are populated with subgrid copies, their changes are lost when the main grid binds again the master dataset.

Any way of getting the nested grids to populate from views to the main dataset instead of subset copies?

you are right. Consider this sample more a proof-of-concept. I think that the developer should know how to properly persist the changes in her internal datastructure.

I have a question, in method:
protected virtual void LoadTemplateTable

at the bottom:

drPanel.DataBind();

loads the childgrid with data by binding it to a dataset. Is there any way to load the child datagrids with a DataView instead? This will allow for a smaller memory footprint and allow updates to the childgrids to persist. However the current implementation fails when anything other than a dataset is bound to the childgrid.

I am using the latest version and refreshing the page loses the expanded row state. I only databind when !IsPostBack, what should I look for to solve this issue?

Unfortuntely your .NET 2.0 fix doesn't work for us. That's because we use the new "ClassName" attribute in the "Control" directive. This means that the name of the compiled UserControl ascx isn't what you are expecting.

However I think that there is a better way to fix the entire situation. In .NET 2.0 the LoadControl method has an overload which allows you to pass the usercontrol in as a type (rather than having to specifiy a virt. dir).

Using this the code, the difference between a control and a user control becomes almost identical and you don't have to figure out the virt. dir path at all.

I have tested the modification and it seems to work nicely.

Hey Denis...First of all let me congratulate you for a great job. HierarGrid makes life a lot easier.
I have got a query. I have sucssefully used the HierarGrid DLL (V2.1.0.0) to display information in my project.

However I want to add the source code inside my project rather than referring to the dll. Something like adding the pages to my project andcompile. Can I do it ? What all things I will have to keep in my mind if I copy all the source code inside my project ? Please suggest.

I've used the HierarGrid in ASP.NET 1.1 and it was fine. Now I'm trying to use id in ASP.NET 2.o and I get the following error.
